After the jury had been out for a very long time they ruled that Tom Robinson was guilty. I didn’t think that was right because nothing the Ewell’s said proved that he did rape Mayella but just about everything Atticus said proved that he didn’t. The only reason the jury ruled in favor of the Ewell’s was because it was an African American man against a white man. Most of the town knew that Atticus and Tom were going to lose the trial because Miss Maudie said “I waited and waited to see you all come down the sidewalk, and as I waited I thought, Atticus Finch won’t win, he can’t win, but he’s the only man in these parts who can keep a jury out so long in a case like that.” (216) Everyone knew that the jury would never rule in favor of an African American over a white man, but I don’t see why because most of the town knew the Ewell’s were lying, even the judge was in favor of Tom.

And everytime the make a racial joke it makes me so mad! we’ve gotten into a lot of heated discussions about it because I dont care what a person’s race, religion or whatever is, thats not important to me so I have friends that are African Americans and Native Americans and Mexicans and I have friends from different countries like turkey and moracco and all over so when they go off being racist it makes me want to be defensive. they need to realize that this isn’t the same time as when they grew up…its not cool to treat people differently just because they’re a different race. its not just whites anyone can be racist in To Kill A Mockingbird the people in Maycomb are racist towards Tom Robinson but also when Jem and Scout go to Cal’s church Lula says they didnt need to be there cause they were white.

Today Scout and I met a new friend, his name is Charles Baker Harris, we call him Dill. He comes from Meridian. Hes really good at reacting picture shows. He became very interested in the Radleys; he wants to get Boo to come out.
Dill bet me The Gray Ghost against two Tom Swifts that I couldn’t get past the gate to the Radley place, but I didn’t want to upset Mr. Radley. But 3 days later I ran to the house and touched it!
We started school and the first day Scout was fighting with Walter Cunningham because something she said about him got her in trouble with the new teacher.
Scout found gum sitting in the tree at the edge of the Radley lot and she ate it. I told her to spit it out or I’d tell Calpurnia. She shouldn’t ever touch those trees; she’ll get killed if she does! Then later we found a box with two polished pennies in it! Scout thought that might be somebody’s hiding place but who would put stuff in a tree?
I rolled Scout down the street in a tire to and she rolled right into the Radley’s yard! But then I had to go get the tire because she was too afraid. Afterwards I came up with the idea to do a play about Boo Radley, and Atticus almost caught us! But I covered for it.
Dill and I decided to write a note to Boo. We asked him if he would come out sometime. We stuck the note to the end of a fishing pole and I tried to put it on the window. But then Atticus caught us; he was pretty upset.
Then we decided to peep in the window with the loose shutter to try and see Boo. I was standing on the porch trying to see in a different window when someone came out! We ran to the fence by the schoolyard and but my pants got stuck and I had to take them off. The whole neighborhood was down by the Radley place because they heard Mr. Radley shooting at something, and then Ms. Stephanie noticed I didn’t have pants on. Dill covered and said we were playing strip poker but that didn’t get us out of trouble. I went back at night to get my pants.
Scout and I found a ball of twine in the knothole of the tree. Scout thought it was somebody’s hiding place so we left the twine there but it was still there on third day so we decided that whatever we found there was ours. And then we found two soap carvings, one was of Scout and the other was of me. In the next few weeks we found a whole pack of gum, a medal, a pocket watch, and an aluminum knife. We were going to write a note thanking whoever left all that in the knothole but Mr. Radley filled it up with cement; he said it was dying.
It started snowing! It hadn’t snowed in Maycomb since 1885! But then one night Miss Maudie’s house caught fire. And Boo Radley came out and put a blanket around Scout.

I think Jem’s the reason that they all got in trouble, or at least almost did. He had a fascination with the Radley house and about Arthur Radley. He was the one that first went up to the house, Dill was the one that convinced him to but he didn’t have to listen to him. It was also his idea to do skits about Boo Radley, and when Scout thought that Atticus knew she wanted to stop but Jem thought of ways around it like saying they’d just change the names of the characters so that it couldn’t be considered Boo’s life. Once he and Scout returned to school he seemed different. He told Scout not to even come up to him and talk to him while they were at school but they could still do usual stuff at home. But he was nice; when Scout was mad at Walter because she had gotten in trouble Jem invited him to their house for lunch. He acted tough. Like he told Walter that he touched the Radley house but he would still run past it if he was alone, or when Scout didn’t want to get their tire from the Radley’s front yard because she was scared Jem said that she was acting like a girl but he hesitated and had to run quickly when she told him to get it. Then the summer came again and so did Dill and every time they wanted to do something but Scout didn’t he’d call Scout a girl to make her feel like she had to.

I personally like to read I have about at least 40-50 books that I’ve bought so reading comes easily and naturally to me. Writing is a little harder; I can do it but my best work is done when I’m writing just because I feel like it. When I’m forced to write I don’t always know exactly how to word it but I try my best. I don’t like to write much but its something I have to do and if people don’t like to read they just have to get over that because they’re going to have to read something everyday.
